I can't decide between the '94 Gsi and the '95 onwards one! I drove a '94 one yesturday and it didn't feel very quick, it was torquey to begin with but never really picked up much...My sri seemed to have more top end? is the pre-ecotec easier to tune due to it not having a mass air meter or somthing?? I know i posted something similar the other day but i'm still stuck. Cheers!

C16XE will feel more torquey as it kicks in lower down, where as the X16XE comes in higher up the rev range & kicks in a bit harder (from what I have felt anyways)

they are only a 1.6 tho & weigh nearly 1000Kg when driver is sat in it & a few bits here & there...

I was ok to get my '95 GSi... even tho its turning into a turkey

engine only had 7k on it when I bought it but ye, main thing to check is if its been ragged, if its a smoker, any taps/rattles which dont sound right, no hesitation when pulling through gears...

put it in 4th at 25 and floor it upto about 60, if it judders or smokes or sounds bad - leave well alone! it should be smooth.

you seen the videos of mine? check them against the acceleration of the one you look at... all thats done to the engine in mine is a pipercross induction kit & nothing else!

Yea, i loved the videos! saw them when u posted them. The guy said the engine had a rebuild in january so it should be in excellent condition! however the reason it was rebuilt was because the cam belt snapped....

happened on the old engine in mine, said they were going down the motorway & the cambelt just let go & whole engine was wasted!

suppose another thing to make sure of really - find out how often its been serviced & ask for proof - mine has full history from the day it was bought which was nice
