Dont want to demoralise you or anything, but if your trying to do anything on a track "cheap" then forget it. Any form of motorsport - even at the lowest level will cost you an arm and a leg. Dont try to do things on the cheap as they only come back to haunt you. If trundling around in a standardish car is your thing then fair game, but to push and be competitive then you need to do things properly - even just for a hobby. Hence most of the "bigger boys" at track days are older as they've had to work up to things.

As I say, I dont want to put you off - exactly the opposite - but just thought Id make sure your aware that its not a cheap thing to do.

A mini with 2 motorbike engines - R1's or with Just one Suzuki blackbird in the boot. I'm building one soon However the LET'd GSi Corsa idea I keep having might put me off doing it.....

1800ed - just to warn you that the rear panel in the original Mini which divides the boot and interior is a structural part. If your intending cutting this out then you'll need serious ammounts of supports to make sure the shell will last.

A fully welded in roll cage, with extra bits to mount the engine to will be fitted for this conversion, with various gussets e.t.c... Need to read into it a fair bit more though! Thanks for the warning

In that case, Id follow JR/PaulW's route of stripping a standard car, preping the shell properly and then slowly adding to that.

Id personally recomment a common car so that parts are common and relatively cheap. Best buys are Novas, Corsas, Fiesta's and Escorts etc.

Thanks - I spend 90% of my life working and helping with rally cars so I know what Im talking about and what I dont I dont make up!

1800ed - Sounds good, make sure you get a Quaife box as the standard are useless the moment you put something good in there.

Corsa - Ive only been to 3 track days at Knockhill and havent paid for them (Putting on Demos) so Im not sure but I think the going rate is 40pounds for as many goes as you can squeeze in. Id recommend you do get the car taxed/MOT'd though as the track cars have to be of that standard anyway, so it makes sense to pay a little bit more to allow you to test it on the road. Either that or if you know any farmers ask to use a field for a few pints!

isnt it always!

I know I told you on MSN, but for anyone else, a track car needs to be at the state of an MOT inspection but doesnt need a certificate or tax.
