Any form of motorsport - even at the lowest level will cost you an arm and a leg. Dont try to do things on the cheap as they only come back to haunt you. If trundling around in a standardish car is your thing then fair game, but to push and be competitive then you need to do things properly - even just for a hobby. Hence most of the "bigger boys" at track days are older as they've had to work up to things.
