Originally posted by Terry12 Cheers Ash, Can all the RCD's go back to the main fuse box or do these all need to be inline of each circuit? So I have to fit smoke detectors?
RCD's are fitted inside the consumer unit (fuse box) 17th edition requires two also know as a split-load dual rcd board. (Or you can fit all RCBOs instead but theyre about £25 each so could cost you a fortune) And yes, smoke detectors are compulsary now, think you can get away with the long-life 10yr battery ones but if your re-wiring it would be silly to not fit inter linked mains smoke detectors with a heat detector in the kitchen. Theres alot more to it than just re-doing the sockets and lights! As Matt mentioned, ventilation is important too, bathrooms and kitchens need proper extraction/filtration [Edited on 09-08-2010 by ash_corsa]
