if you r staying on t-mobile:( u dont need to unlock it, if you want to leave t-mobile:thumbs: then it may need unlocking

your contract phone is probably unlocked mate, as eskiboy said just buy and pay and go sim and stick it in (with glue if you're worried about it falling out)

but how could i turn my old handset into a PAYG phone?

do i need to buy a SIM card? where from? how much etc?
