Same thing happened to us, our old digi box broke down so we ended up just buying a Sky+ box to solve he problem. Haven't looked back either :)

i was offered sky + for £99 for the box and £60 for install so i said sod that then got passed to the turn around team and ended up with sky + box for £49 and no insatll charge
i already have the full package so dont need to pay the £10 subsription for + services
just be firm and stick to your guns
the worst that can happen is they do cancel it but within 2 weeks after that you will receive letters full of offers to get you back

only other way to get an upgrade would be to try and find a cheap box on the bay perhaps?

I'd start nearer the end though for recent ones.

Can't see the bit I was thinking of but it still gives you pelnty in there.

That's definitely where I read about saying certain things to get certain responses but I can't be annoyed looking.

They must have been talking rubbish though :|

Depending on what you say they offer you certain deals.

They can't offer them unless you say what they need to hear though.

Could be worth a go, but would much prefer an upgrade to sky+ than getting an 8 year old box fixed.

we had this trouble too.

our box kept freezing, they told us it'd be 70 for a box, or 70 for an engineer.

we eventually got the engineer free, by threatening to cancel (as it would have been cheaper to get a new subscription than the engineer would have cost)

lay it on thick, and tell them you will cancel. worked for us.

I have a quick question for you guys out there. Is there any way of obtaining a free upgrade to Sky + from the normal boxes. My father in law has been a customer of theres for years now and has had a normal digital box since 1998, always subscribing to the full package available. Now the box is playing up and they want 70 odd quid to send an engineer out, but dad wants a Sky+ box and they wont give him one. They are adamant he has to pay 99 quid for it, but imo he should be able to get it free, having been a long serving customer. Any tips, ideas on how to get them to give in and give him a free upgrade?
