Originally posted by K11 NNL Sorry to stand out alone here, but my mates 1.4 16v corsa sport (Brocade yellow one put froward for Doncaster)was doing 120mph....whether the speedo was out a wee bit or not, i can defo vouch that it was hitting those speeds. Also my old Nova sri 1.4 8v did 132mph flat out.
You defo vouch that it was hitting those speeds? How? by looking at the speedo infront of you thats inacurate? or by following behind and saying 'well on my which is also inacurate speedo it's showing 120 so he is doing 120!' Unless your using GPS equipment or have a police gun shot at you, you cannot tell me your speed is accurate sorry! I had 130 mph on my clock in my 106 gti and it only showed at 122 mph on the road angel! with GPS! (This was before I got my wake up call and brought me back to reality!) My Corsa Sxi 1.2 16v, had 117 mph on the clocks!!! I was probably only doing 106 mph. Not only can your speedo be inacurate to start with. but things like (change in wheel size can affect speedo) - but also as you speed up the force acting outwards on things spinning (go on one of those rides in the park and spin it round, it'll try to chuck you off), so your tyres increase size as you get faster and faster... when your doing over 100 mph your speedo will be like 8-10 mph out (give or take either way) Paul J
