well i have a 450w Antec PSU, and its excellent. Its actually reduced the running temps of my PC with its extra fan.

250w PSU with a Ath 2200 is shit. They do this on purpose I reckon to give a short PC life. These days 350W should be the minimum with 550w being nice :)

Be careful when you take out the CPU as they are supper thin and easily crack.

Run the error checking on the HD and see what it finds. Also check your IDE cable. The HD on my PC was playing up yesterday dn freezing my comp. After finding bad sector errors and controler errors in the event viewer. I ran the error checking which fixed the bad sector, I hope. I then removed and and replugged back in the IDE cable. Since then no more probs. If you have a spare IDE cable, try that first before shelling out on a new HD.

??? i was sold this PC under false pretences, therefore i want to know how deep the rabbit hole goes. Already found out this week that they supplied my athlon 2200+ with a 250w PSU. So im on the hunt for more ripped-off-ness. And its not fast enough anyhow. Needs to be faster. but cant upgrade unless i know whats going on with my chipset. also, im well aware of the dangers of messing around with the CPU, i put a little too much thermal paste on the last one. it smelled funny

Ian, me not happy :(

But when i bought the PC, Time sold it as a 333mhz FSB special, and look at the chipset info. Does it make any sense? NO! it says its 2 different chipsets???

Cybermonkey

Well when i boot up, it says next to the memory count, 166mhz, DDR 333mhz.

What makes you think its running at 333 FSB? The board will do 266 bus won't it? They're both a funny multiplier 6.75 for 266 and 5.4 for 333.

Ok a few more things if you could help Ian, according to the AMD website, AMD never made an XP2200 with an FSB of 333mhz. what could be going on? Im going to take it apart tomorow and get the codes off the chip to help.

Hmm that is interesting since i have a Thoroughbred. Didnt think the Barton would run on my MoBo??? Alothough the only difference between Thoroughbred and Barton is the 256kb extra L2 cache. very interesting indeed. I think i might try to contact AMD themselves.

Thanks very much Ian and others :thumbs:

Is that manual in the BIOS a new thing Ian? I've never seen or heard about that before. The last board i got was a year or so ago which has an Athlon XP 2000+ on. Could do with a CPU upgrade soon

No, my BIOS is cack, and it wont let me flash it to a more recent version either.

PN, might well do this, good idea. Will try and trace a few down here in sydney.:thumbs:

Dave, best thing to do is e-mail a computer shop and ask them as they might have tested that board with say an Athlon XP 3000+ CPU. One of them might even try a faster CPU in it for free if they don't know.

Try: -
http://www.aria.co.uk
http://www.dabs.com
http://www.computerplus.uk.com

Those are people i use and are quite good.

I have looked and looked everywhere i can think of on the net, but cannot find out what the fastest processor my motherboard supports. MSI are useless and wont respond to e-mails, the motherboard is an MSI 6382E V3 and chipset (if it matters) is a VIA Apollo KT266/A,KT333 . I currently have an AMD Athlon XP2200 @ 1800mhz. Help much appreciated!
