Originally posted by kingdomcorsa Volvo 300 series.
Oh come along! Why the lack of love for the 300s? A mate of mine has a 400bhp turbo 360 ;) Mine is 15 years old and has never broken down or had major mechanical work from new - currently at 120k miles. Sure they roll a bit (comfy suspension set-up from the factory), but they're a big car (same length as a BMW E30 3-series and Sierra, much as they don't look it), and they handle & go quite well all things considered. They're safe (recent survey put them up with things like lastest Audi A3, Focus & Astra for survivability...as well as a MK2 Golf), are rear wheel drive with good weight distribution, and can be launched at 4krpm without wheelspin. Mine can do 50mpg (is a 2.0), yet can beat Saxo VTRs (that's the slower one of a VTS/VTR, right?) off the line. Plus boy racers don't like them (except me!) so the insurance is low. Finally, they engine can be a bed for a 400+bhp monster using mostly stock parts. We've all been held up behind someone's gran in a 1.4 (renault) engined 340 variomatic, but did you guys know that a stock 360 GLT (2.0 8v injection) is good for beating a Golf GTI 8v and an XR3i of the same era? Sadly, no-one does decent styling on them cos they're so unpopular. There are a few butchered ones out there. :( But still, Max Power hate them. Ignorance is bliss I say :) cheers James
