if its noisy you need to replace the shoes it runs on too....
and yes you need to drop the sump - i did one a few hours ago.

tensioner is about £30 plus a water pump and side casing gaskets and maybe sump of you have to remove it

Sorted cheers warren, whats it worth (plus parts?)

well, take the engine mount off, then waterpump then side casing, im 99% you dont affect the timing when doing it.

you may have to lower the sump (to get the side casing off), i cant remeber tbh though

Yeah i assumed that, how i should have said it is "is it as easy as a belt on a 20xe?"

Warren G

whole side casing off

Its not always constant though the noise is intermitant.

Chain and tensioner easy to do ?

Warren G

needs a new timing chain tensioner - theres reworked ones out

but a new timing chain cures the noise too (do to old chain is worn but tensioner is too weak and cant adjust to wear causing rattling

think deano87 was having a similar problem with he 1.0. Was to do with the chain or something I think :boggle:

Im just at work and a guy i know has asked me if i can help him

He says that his engine (x10xe) is making a noise, becomes worse when hot

A load tapping noise that gets louder as you rev it, i havent heard it myself yet this is just what i've been told

I suggested either tappets, or timing chain :boggle:

Any other ideas ???
