Sounds like a clogged up throttle body to me, have this type of problem on early polos and golfs, the butterfly flap gets clogged up with carbon and wont let any air pass at idle

Remove the throttle body give ita damn good clean out with carb cleaner and refit, should sort it!

After a hard run, IE: say a while at 80mph on M/WAY, you'll get a sort of chugging for 2 secs & if you dip the clutch in the dash lights will come on due to the fact teh car has cut out, so all I do is release the clutch so it effectively bump starts it..

So what you guys reckon?

erm.... that sounds more like the icv with the engine cutting out.

blocked/dodgy egr usually means bit of juddering and missfiring at low revs unti its forced open.

best of getting a blanking plate if it is the egr (£3 from vaux)

my bro has a 2.0 calibra..... his sometimes just cut out at junctions (when engine is idling by itself)... so took the idle control valve off, cleaned it out with some white spitit and the tb and tah-dah fixed

GF bought a Astra Mk4 1.6 16v LS at the weekend.. Guy said needed an EGR valve which was fine.. Symptons is upon a heavy load, say 80mph for a distance will result in teh car cutting out when you come to a junction, easy fix, turn off then back on.. So am I right in sayin that yes it is the EGR valve that i knackered? Also does anyone have a pic on where the EGR valve is situated on the 1.6 16v engine? Also where can I pick one up on teh cheap?
