it smelling bad (petrol odour now) esp when i drive the car hard....rattling is becoming louder, but now statring at 3k up to 4k...and the exhaust feels restrictive sometimes and car stalled some few times, smoked at start up (fuel smell again)

could it be the cat?

check the cambelt is tensioned properly. I had this once after 2k miles on an x16xe and it turned out that the tensioner was slightly out.

remove the cambelt covers and turn the crank over twice. then check that the pointer is on 'used' on the tensioner. explained in detail in the haynes manual.

could also check easyer things like pas pump, alternator, alternator belt tensioner etc... by removing the belt and running the engine without it fitted. if the noise is gone then it has narrowed down the possibilities.

was the waterpump done with the timing belt? did you replace the tensioner and rollers?

checked, nothing seen to be such...

and it's quite specific at 3.2-3.9k

is it possible that is an electric connection or spark plug problem?:boggle:

there's a ticking noise which you can here inside the car (like behind the dash) but outside too, near drivers wing at the bottom. it only happens at revs between 3.2-3.9...

it's quite annoying now and there should be a problem i guess...any idea?

thanks

ENGINE: 1.4 16v yr 2000
