It's a higher performance camshaft. Basically the valves stay open for longer when using a performance camshaft, the time is dependent on the shape of the cam lobes...

look on piper cams, kent cams

Or use the tutorials and FAQ's forums and have a read about cams on there.

T40's and a 285 cam, you'll be around 100BHP this is the same spec the nova sports ran.

ok so at a guess how much bhp would the 1.3 have if i upgraded the carbs to 40's what else would be cheapish but effective?

James R

40's on a 1.3

www.jenvey.co.uk are the main suppliers of TB's.

Carbs are a mecanical version, or rather TB's are a electonic verison of carbs ;)

120BHP out of a 1.3 is 300deg cam, head work, big valves, tubular manifold ARP's and a 8k rev limit.

Or just buy a 1.4 MPi engine, remove injection, add 300deg cam etc....

Much cheaper than head work on a 1.3

I have a 1.4 Mpi engine in the shed if you were interested.

Throttle bodies use electronic fuel injection, you have one throttle body and fuel injector per cylinder and an ECU which controls fueling and ignition. Downfall is they are pretty expensive and cost a fair bit to set up...

I guess you already have carbs on the engine, so I guess you should probably upgrade those to 40's or 45's and upgrade the camshaft...

ok guys, thing is im new to all this, but want to learn :) what are throttle bodies? where can i get them? 120 bhp sounds good lol what else i need to reach this bhp?

As j1400 said... Apparently you can get 120mph out of a 1.2 8v on throttle bodies so long as its on the right gear box... ;)

have a look around on
www.novaload.net

As lots of small block 8v tuning goes on.

If you want to bump the output then tiwn 40's 285deg cam, flowed head and tubualr maniofld will see you just shy of 100BHP

im really considering putting this engine into my corsa, but i need lots of help, what can i do to the engine to increase bhp its a 1.3 8v carb engine, also could i put the 1.2 8v back into the nova? i have a spare 1.4 8v and two spare 1.2 8vs the 1.4 is litterally buggerd no good for corsa but could i use parts onto the 1.3 from the 1.4, any help would be gr8
