I suspect most of you have not driven one and seen how flexible and forgiving the handling is, it holds the road superbly on roundabouts and its such a good chassis you can go crashing over country lanes without the worry of bouncing of the road. Theres more to a good chassis then stiff shocks and low ride height you know.
I have seen many remarks in the motoring press that it is up there with the teg type R as one of the best FWD handling cars.

The chasis is the same in the older 106's yes such as the xsi?
My mates got a 106 xsi a few bits done including full suspension, handles very well yes and is very forgiving, but coming off the motorway onto the bypass and onto what we call the 'sprial' which basically is a 90% full circle onto a main road, it is very tight and my mate can drive (had car 2 years aswell as doen rallying courses and go-karting since he was 10 odd). He gets 70 around there (he has to slow for the spiral) anyway my next door nieghbour had an accord type r, he is an ok driver had only had the car a couple of months, he got 85+ around there and his type r was even more forgiving, i can only imagine what the teg type r could get round there but u see my point

i agree - people who have never drievn one will be SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO surprised how well this car handles
it came in 2nd in a evo magazine write up for the best FWD handling car

yes no std mr2 would touch it, i even ou handled a Celica GT4 round a roundabout he was all over the place where i just stuck to his arse

I think I'll stick with my sports car if its all the same. Although if I do need to get some shopping really quickly I may give use a 106.

for my two bobs worth
i rate the 106GTI as a smaller version of my golf
standard vs standard both handle very well and both are v.predictable
only thing with the 106 being smaller it does feel a bit more chuckable.

cheers for the response guys! I am ordering the peugeot sport system with decat from www.rallycar.com as well as an ecosse sealed induction kit!
With regards to lowering the lil pug any1 know how hard it is to adjust the rear bar yourself? i wanna go for a 40 mm drop.
I paid 5000 for mine with 46k from a peugeot dealer.... got new MOT, Service and 12 month warranty in the deal too!
Will get some pics up as soon as I can!

Dont skimp on money when selecting after market suspension mods for a 106 Gti. You`ll risk ruining an already great chassis, I reckon you should go for a 50mm drop but make sure you invest in a pair of uprated torsion bars from pug sport 21mm i think, pug sport bilsteins and gmc -50mm springs. Might be worth doing the suspension bushes as well seeing as the car is getting towards 50k.

Yes, if you go more then 25mm they are essential. I mean when you fit a supsension kit to a corsa, you dont skimp on rear springs do you?
Only thing is you are improving an already sorted chassis so its not going to be cheap. I priced it up a while ago for the above and you want to budget at least a grand.
Dont attempt the torsion bars by yourself, if they are seized you could spend all day with a hammer and a can of wd40, best to find a garage that has done a few before and can do it in less time.

Sounds like youve got a nice little motor there!
I reckon if I bought another front wheel drive (I dont think I would do again though) Id go with a 106gti on throttle bodies, mid 14 quarter no worries!
