Towards the 50 & onwards i was taking him he could nt keep up lucky i have them 8 extra valves, & they kick in when you need em.

The 1.6's put out 110bhp iirc and aren't strangled by a cat.
The 1.8 is 105bhp.
The 1.8 will of course have a wee bit more torque.

I've come up against a 1.8 XR2i a few times and I could comfortably keep up if following or if in front would pull away above 70. That owner later bought an RS1800 which turned the tables. He pulled away from me over 70.

Corsa GSi 0-60 - 8.7secs
1.8 XR2i 0-60 - 9.4secs
figures from Autocar

A 1.8 XR2i is about as quick as a Saxo VTR

The 1.8 is 130bhp 0-60 in about 8 secs the 1.6 is 112bhp 0-60 in about 8.9 secs

I got a GSI standard part from induction kit, & lowered 40mm

The 1.6 was the old CVH engine that had been around since 1981 iirc. That would have required major work to get it through the 1992 emmissions regulations.

The 1.8 was Fords new Zetec engine. DOHC,16 valver, CAT etc which conformed to the new emmissions regulations.

Came in 2 flavours 105bhp + 130bhp.

The 130bhp was only in the RS1800. The XR2i had to do with the 105bhp version

years ago my m8 had the 1.6 xr2i and he coudnlt get passed me in my AX GT.
Same as mate wi nova gte and m8 wi nova gsi..
