i am currently runing win 98 which has been upgraded to 98SE.
i have obtained a copy of 2000 which i want to install 'clean'.
could someone please advise me on what files and programs i need to leave on my system to do this, if any?

Nothing

Win 98 boot disk. FDisk it. then format it Fat 32

Then convert to NTFS

aight, i just wasnt sure if there were any files i needed to leave to be able to switch it on.
i guess it just uses files off the disk to start up?

Yes but dont forget to enable the CD ROM as the 2nd boot option.

1 Floppy
2 cd rom
3 hard drive

then change once done

Nope, fotki don't allow anything other than the specified image types I'm afraid - did you get any freebee space from your ISP?

You shouldnt need to FDISK it or format it in FAT32... The Win2k setup program gives you the option to partition & format the HDD (in NTFS), so that would be the easiest way!

but how will that create a fresh install??

I did that last time and the only ture way to wipe the slate clean is the way i said cheers

You can re-partition and format in FAT32 or NTFS in the install section at the start of set-up

Didnt do that last time. Still created the same Errors for me. I ended up doing the route i did

You can delete your partition and create a new one from the installation of Win 2k. Basically, all you need to do is make your CD ROM boot your CD drive before your HDD. There r loads of diff ways u can do this, all depends wot Hardware u hav got on ur sys. Av got mine set-up so it boots floppy drive, IDE CD ROM, SCSI CD ROM, USB ZIP Drive and then the HDD.
