do 16cm(6.5") components fit straight in the standard door locations or do i need to buy/make an adaptor??

They just fit with the autoleads 5" adapters, speaker cage may touch window rail slowing the window when its half way down.

how can i have 6.5" speakers in 5" adaptors??? that sounds rather odd, arnt the standard speakers 16cm?

Think the adapters were designed for 6" but cos they touch the rails you also get a spacing ring to fit 5" speakers.
Just dont use the spacing ring and it'll be ok.
You need adapters cos the speakers are at a daft angle and sit out from the door.
