Finally we have ordered the new webserver for corsasport. The current server isn't quite up to spec for what we want to do with the site...

So with the premium kitty we have purchased a spanking new server which is being built at the moment courtesy of Dell.

Tech specs for those that are interested include a P4 2.4 GHz CPU, 512MB of ECC memory, 80Gb RAID1 drive array and a couple of gigabit network cards. Which should blaze through the site code considering that's all it's doing

So thank you to all those that support the site financially and help us to keep the site running as quick as it has been and as stable...

The estimated delivery date is the 18th August so the week after this we will configure the new machine and set a date to migrate all the site -- we will of course endeavour to minimise downtime throughout the transfer period

Thanks again,

Tim, Ian & all the CorsaSport.co.uk Staff

Good luck, hope it all goes well, and you don't get too many people complaining like the last scheduled maintenance!

because its only running the sites code through it so it wont need a massive amount of ram in there.
btw is it ddr 2700? or faster?

We didn't go balls out on the spec, there were some very shiny dual Xeon models in the offing but our massively efficient code and astute configuration will mean it's quick enough as is. Plus have you seen the price of flags these days? We need some of those as well

This new server you are getting just doesn't seem that high a spec. I still think you spend the money on beer

Bear in mind the current server is a Pentium II 400. Dual processors but they're not the quickest in terms of clock speed. However, the hardware has no even so much as needed a reboot for 337 days at the time of posting. Thats the true test of a good server. Not outright speed, that's just a good bonus and gives us the ability to do cool stuff.

It'd probably be crap for games but ask your tower system to cope with power outage and overheating

Well if you knew anything about computers you'd know that server spec motherboards, ram, rackmount cases, etc, all cost a lot more than your average desktop computer. Has your desktop PC been up and running 337 days without a reboot and never crashed?

For tax reasons we have to keep strict records of corsasport, so I don't think we'd spend it on beer Why, how much do you think that server cost us?

Oh, got an email from our account manager today -- server was dispatched...

We did a good deal so we can't possibly publish the price for fear of 10 more people wanting them and that annoying our supplier.

Suffice to say it was a fair heap of cash, more than twice what I forked out for the current server (which at the time wasn't a cheap machine either!!) but we've still got some cash left over which is good!
