i listen mainly to R&B, Drum n' bass, and a bit of garage....

i like drops and punchy beats from a sub,

what's the best size sub for me? and what kind of enlosure should i yield the best results from?

what kind of sound characteristics do 10", 12" and 15" subs have, and what about ported and sealed enclosures?

Thanks every1, i've wanted to clear this up for ages

oh and i like quality, i hate 6x9s. The rest of my system consists of components amped @ 100RMS each.

But i also want to beable to be heard comin down the street, but with quality ozzing out rather than a tinny rattle..... although i like the sub to perform well at low listening levels too

get a quality sub to not rattle a car is impossible....the better the sub the more rattle u'll get outside...although that shouldnt bother u too much as u sit inside.
sound deadening will be required to help reduce vibrations...I can only commend dynamat.
if u get a good ten like the aline zr it'll sound as good as a 12 but still holdin the punchiness of a ten...I've got 2 12's now.
very happy with how they sound...I'm gettin a new amp to power them though.
a ten will give u tight punchy bass...a 12 will give u tight bass, but not as tight but will drop lower and a 15 will go low n rumble but wont be able to hold beats with a fast bpm.

a single ported 12" with a fair bit o' power shoved up it should do the job. About 500RMS into a JL or similar, Kicker Square or Rockford.

cheers every1. so a ported box will give me that little bit extra slam?

how do you know which subs can be used in a ported box?

i've seen some which are advertised as sealed only, and others a free air. whats all that mean?

Basically free air are designed to run in a MASSIVE box, so they use the whole boot space as its enclosure and the parcel shelf as the baffel. All subs can be ported but you MUST have the correct ported enclosure. Their are formula available to work it out but you have to 'tune' the port so that the sub does not start acting as though its in 'free air' at too high a frequency. All it envolves is different encloure volumes and port diameters and lengths. Its also different for every sub, you have to use the subs 'stats' in the forulae...

sealed is punchy and easiest in terms of DIY, its also much more forgiving to subs as one small error on a ported enclosure could mean certain death for the sub whereas with sealed a few cubic inches here and their shouldnt make much of a difference... U2u for more info...

VERY often not set up correctly at all.... Vibe do take some time to get their enclosures and subs working well but places like In phase audio who deal with DB audio, Pyle and the likes just shove them in a box with a hole and sell them...

Matt, I'm runnin a Pioneer 305C 12" in a ported box, and my gosh.....................ITS LOUD. Its won a few awards for best 12" etc and won a test in Max power (July).

Runnin it from a 4ch Rockford Amp (G300X), which is also currently runnin my Pioneer 6*9's. Its one awsome set up (for a single 12"), if i say so myself!

I'm a Drum'n Bass, Old Skool (house), 4x4 Garage, and bit of a RnB Fan, and this sub does everything i need. For example, dropping and holdin as low as f**k on Rnb, but then holds tight and punches well on my EZ CD's.....Best of both worlds

2 off them will be mental mate.......I mean one alone shakes my car to bits. (oh and the cone is carbon fiber look :lol

Just make sure u got a decent amp to run em, coz the guy in New image said that particular sub seemed sensitive to wot amp ran it! He's tried a few combo's, before he decided to put 4 in one of his demo cars. My god, that thing bounced!!

305's are damn loud enuff for me. Plus the quality of the sound it what i was after, and got more than i bargained for.

I dont enter no sound offs, nor do i whack up the bass the whole time, i justed wanted a little back up for the 6*9s, and i got just what i wanted all round.
