I'm thinkin of gettin a corsa 1.2i 8v (well helpin someone get one) and was wondering if these engines are really as useless as people say they are?

how would they compare against a fiesta 1.1i?( cus i have had one of these and they are'nt that bad apart from rust a tacky build)

some people sya the sri is shite too so how much is insurance on one of them anyway for a learner under a parents name?

would a 1.2i corsa keep up with a 1.3 mk5 escort?

are the 1.4i a lot better?

1.2 8v (45bhp) are as bad as people say they are!

1.4i 8v SPi is 60bhp and gets to 60mph sometime next week!

1.4 8v MPi (the SRi) has a noticeable difference and will rape the SPi 1.4 for breakfast! This performs how a 1.4 should do really! (83bhp)

1.2 8v SPi = 45bhp
1.2 16v MPi = 65bhp (Corsa B), 75bhp (Corsa C)
1.4 8v SPi = 59bhp
1.4 8v MPi = 82bhp
1.4 16v MPi = 90bhp
1.6 16v MPi = 106bhp (X16XE newer), 109bhp (C16XE older)

if ur got your heart set on a 1.2, id really reccomend getting the 1.2 16v as its alot better behaved engine and actually has some performance to it.

my old SPi lump must of thought it was something else then, beat quite a few SRi's (8v MPi), and also gave a good chace for the 1.4 Sports (16v), mind I did drive it like a mad basteed & scared quite a few people as to what it could actually do, especially when they found out what engine it was

I got mpi with a few bits done, good engines, would recoomend paying etc insurance if you care about speed at all, if u dnt then get a 1.2

most of the french 1.1's etc (saxo's 106's) are considerably quicker than 1.2 8v's

U also get better trim & spec from sri

it is possible to improve the performance of the SPi, but doing so makes it VERY unreliable, and its not an easy task either!
In the past 12 months alone, i've gone through 3 headgasgets & a new head.

Its mainly cos the SPi is just a shite engine, I will admit to that, they are, but even though, nothing is impossible!

erm no... the sport's come into pick up after 3k rpm... not after 80mph you numpty... 1st gear... 3k rpm... vroom 2nd gear same ...

please shut up.... there is 8hp different on the factory figures and more pick up through the rev's on a 16v, sport anyday, dont understand how vauxhall could make a SRi with a 82hp tag.

The 16v head makes its presence felt in every gear at about 4k rpm. At least it has in every car I've owned. Including the 24v on my Beemer.
