not everyone knows a lot about racing and engines. I only know cos I come on here so much. 0 - 60 is good for basic comparisons.

WTF
its 30-50 and 50-70 which are better, 0-60 might be brilliant, but if it tops out at 70 then whats the use. at the end of the day who races just from 0 then stops at 60???? noone does.

Why don't you GTF???? Whats your problem? I ain't saying 0 - 60 is a good way to compare cars, i agree its shit. However, I'm purely justifying whoever said 0 - 60 in this thread is a good comparison, because people are led to believe 0 - 60 is the best way.. I'm sure 99% of people that aren't into cars think 0 - 60 is the best way, everyones always saying whats the 0 - 60 FFS!!

Who races just from 0 and stops at 60?

people who don't speed

Also i think 0 - 100 is a good comparison.

0-100 is a much better comparison, my td is shit off the line cos 1st and 2nd gears are short. mates 80 bhp clio used to be quicker than my corsa to about 50 then i just pulled and pulled. i have 99 bhp and 132 ib/ft torque, that had 80 bhp standard. just the fact that the gearing is totally different which has a huge bearing on things.

PGTF with 50-70. thats a top gear test does not show the performance of a car.

Quarter mile and top speed are the best indicators of a cars overall performance. Like the Elise, good 0-60 ,crap top speed, relatively, of course not in most cases.

All this in gear shit, the only one that counts is 30-70mph and thats in whatever gears you would normally use, all this 30-50 and 50-70 in top means fuck all since it only applies to flexibility. You get mags saying shit like the New Golf Tdi is quicker than a Lamborghini, the small print is 30-50 in top, what fookin caravanner uses that as a measure of worth ?

The reason that all this 30-50 and 50-70 in top gear crap is so popular as a measure of worth is people are lazy and can't be arsed to change gear, thats why Diesels are so popular cos people wann tool about in top gear and not have the car shake like a cement mixer.

Go buy a fookin automatic.

Here's the classic Diesel Drivers quote..........

Oh, but the Audi A8 Tdi is soooooo quick, 4 LITRE V8 T DIESEL ETC ETC
yeah and a fuckin v8 4 litre twin turbo PETROL car would rip it to shreds

from my experience the 8 valve usually pulls away first for about a second or 2 then the 16valve comes past

that is total crap ^^^^ 1st & 2nd gear all depens about the driver getting the power down in nearly matched cars

16v's will allow you to how hold the gear longer over an 8v, so in 1st n 2nd the 16v should pull away

also, from my experience its a waste of time resurrecting posts that originated nearly 6mths ago
