Press control-alt-delete, and in Task Manager, see if you have explorer.exe running in the Processes tab.

regastry has been jumbled up, you need to

delete partitian
create new one and set it to max size and activate it.
format c:\
install xp
when asked what format
choose NHFS quick
install will continue
when finished spend a good day installing everything you lost.

send me £300 in the post for tech support!

well it doesnt say what is wrong just that the system has recovered from an error and that i should send it to microsoft.

as much as i would like to send it to them i dont think it would be a good idea.
