Was thinking about that but they are to high maintenence. Just want something that if anything goes wrong with it the parts are easily available.

Depends on the setup. SBD do a TB kit for the 16XE which peaks at about 220BHP. The 20XE is much more, 290BHP i think.

A lad I know has a C20XE GSI Astra, he put 7 and a half grand into the engine and now its 260Bhp (13.1 at the Pod all stripped out with a 6 speed vectra challenge box). As far as I know, Dave "Lucky B" Patterson put around the same money into his C20XE Corsa and he has 250Bhp (13.2 at the Pod)
290Bhp from just TB's eh?

Some of the TB kits for the C20XE are called "192 kit" because they give 192Bhp not quite 290, heh.
You can put a Wallace Phase 1 kit on a C20LET and see 260Bhp (£300'ish) or a phase 2 and see 280Bhp (£600ish) or a phase 3, 300Bhp+ etc. etc.

When you say TB's are high maintenance, are they? how reliable are they and how often will they give problems? are they a pain in the ass to fix etc?

problem with C20LETs in corsa is when the turbo kicks in = wheel spin so u need a lsd to use the power u got

TBs this dont happen cos its a even power increase

but with turbos, u got cheaper options for further power upgrades + the tourqe is a alot higher

SBD do have a 290+ kit, which will bring the C20XE to upto 290 horses, but its more than just TB's, uprated internals, lots of extras, and im guessing it isnt cheap!

Yea and the difference between TB's and a turbo engine is if anything goes wrong with the TB's you cant just pop into your local workshop and expect them to fix it. Where as the turbo is all vauxhall parts, so you can just go into you local dealership.

TP290 kit is about £15,000 and is designed for hard case racers!

TP240 kit is about £10-£12k fitted.

The 2.0litre 16v Redtop can be tuned to around 300bhp, which is pretty shit hot considering its a N/A 2.0litre. Double the power of standard!!!!

As for Throttle Bodies being high maintenace Poppycock. Turbos are FAR worse. Once u have TB set up correctly, its just like a standard engine, with a bit more poke and petrol consumption can go up (until the right foot gets heavy).

I've been in many highly tunned Corsas now. That included AP Racings 280bhp 2.0litre Turbo and LuckyB's 2.1 16v 250bhp redtop.

The results and my conclusion?

Luckys would have obliterated AP's car to 100. Luckys car just pulls and pulls and pulls and the only reason he topped out at 147mph (mag got it wrong) was cos he run out of runway. This was at about 7500rpm, and it pulls to the 8500rpm limiter in 5th. U work the rest of the speed out

AP's without overboost just wanted to spin up even in 4th. It did go quick yeah, but i'd much rather the TB, hence why i never put the 2.0ltire turbo in mine and got a 2.0litre (in the end )

TB dont suffer like a turbo because its only the engine heat created. Turbos get VERY VERY hot and after constent ragging, they glow, and if there hot enuff u can even see the turbine blades Inside teh turbo!! Its an amazing sight!

But, end of the day, u can either have a little "pittissshh" or BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRBBBAAAAA ba ba pop pop pop pop BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRBBAAAAA

TB sound out of this world!!!

U can extract more power from the Turbo yes, but at the end of the day, its a corsa, and i still think 250bhp in a corsa would thrash a 300+bhp Turbo corsa!!

And Dave had a little more than just Throttle Bodies on his 2.1 corsa Its about £10k worth of engine!!!

Theres a lad on Mig that ran 13.77 1/4 mile in his Nova LET and a lad I know of on Puntosport has a mate that ran 13.9 in his Corsa LET (std LET). Dave Pattersons £10K+ engine ran a 13.7 at the Redline meet and has a 13.2 best time. From those results it looks like a Corsa LET would run a faster 1/4 mile at the same sort of Bhp as a TB'ed one.
But I do agree, TB's sound awsome - very racey
I'm doing a conversion on a Corsa GSi very soon and I've chosen LET over XE simply because I love the low down torque, the sound of the dump and the 200Bhp+ as standard. I'd have to spend £2000 on the 192 kit if I did a red top conversion. It was hard to decide but I'm going LET over TB XE.
