Anyone any experience of these? Going to look at them today, i see the government will give you a grant of £4.5k

I feel this sort of car is worth financing/lease instead of buying.

I do wonder what they cost in electricity to charge up though.

I sort of agree, just been onto the BMW site and didn't really like any of the cars (expect the silly expensive ones)

They won't cost much to charge at all, I imagine for an i3 it won't cost more than £2.

And it makes very little financial sense to buy an electric car, they arent worth a wank after 5-7 years due to the cells needing replacement.

An i3 comes with a standard 3 pin plug but it takes ages to charge

They are for emergencies if you want a car you can actually use for more than 10 minutes you need to have one of those blue 16amp sockets fitted somewhere straight off the consumer unit

No they are not you can fully charge the i3 from a 10amp plug in around 13hrs from completely flat.

So as long as you only use your car to get to and from work and don't wish to drive it in an evening you'll be fine

think about it: Most people work 9-5:30 and if you're contemplating an electric car you probably don't work 10 minutes up the road!

Say your commute is an hour each way you have no opportunity to charge between 8am and 18:30 (best case) .

Between 18:30 and 8am is 13.5 hours.. If its a 13 hour charge time your car therefore becomes just a means to get to and from work..

Granted most people wont use a complete charge in their commute but if you did want to use the car outside the commute you're not going to have the spare time to make up for the extra charge time
