Had a look at loads of different ones in b&q at the weekend. Come a long way in terms of quality. It used to look proper fake, but the more expensive ones look more real than real grass

In terms of fitting it, I assume flat ground is essential. God knows how you join it together.

its not essential for it to be flat.

you use joining tape to join it.

from what ive seen online i'll need to do 60-80mm crusher run then 20mm of sand. should be easy enough to get it flat. area is pretty flat now anyway

One of my colleagues has it. He said something like you need to first dig down, then add a weed suppressant layer, then put down some "sharp sand" (whatever that is...), then use a wacker plate to flatten it all...and then lay the grass.

The weed layer and sand might be the other way around btw

I've no idea if the above is true, but it's what he said.

It's great stuff got it in the garden to replace the pebbles we had. Dog loves it, easy to clean and comfortable enough to lie on in the summer. Can even be hoovered.

Lay your wood out drive stakes in to keep it where it should be, fill the area with sand, wacker the sand down then lay the grass like you do a carpet. Staple on end down and roll it out keeping it taught stapling it down as you go

We just have the one layer of membrane on the bottom between the soil and sand. Been a couple of years and up to now we have no weeds, touch wood. But the two layers is belt and braces

I put some down on our balcony just so it wasnt bare concrete on your feet if were out sitting there. Adds a nice bit of colour as well. Was easy enough to put down and just trimmed it with a stanley knife. As ben says its came on along way since the early stuff, actully looks like proper grass these days

Wouldn't pull it back up for more membrane mate. If you've already put it down between the earth and the sand you will be fine
