First off where do you buy them from? Tried searching Amazon but that just brings up the 12v ones that have USB on top of them which is not what I want.

Secondly, when wiring it up I'm guessing that the easiest route would be to feed the wires to the 12v./cigarette lighter?

Just to charge stuff with? Something like this?

I think USB is 5V by the way. That's the extent of my wiring knowledge though i'm afraid

I once bought a cig ligher fitment, took it apart and wired it into my 12v... and blew it up

The 5v thing probably explains it

Physical connectors can be had from eBay, Amazon, CPC, Farnell, Maplin. But do realise that USB is 5V not 12V so you'll a regulator circuit to reduce the voltage (an example http://www.instructables.com/id/Portable-USB-Charger-1/).

Easiest option would be to dismantle a USB car charger and fit that to your car.

Regulator transformer.

Certainly a cheap solution but i doubt you'd be able to pull 3A off it though.

Not exactly..

A regulator regulates voltage.

A transformer transforms voltage and current up or down
