They could be a lot faster than they are but vauxhall didn't design the car for people like use!!!

They were expecting grannies and middle aged twats to be driving them, thats why they are restricted so much.

u should see how much road u need to get the thing to 112mph, they aren't that quick, will beat most shite cars, but then so would my nova.......
The rover 214 has more bhp as standard....
I do get a lot of times when i think yay, i'm flying, then u look down at speedo and think "who am i kidding"

i agree andysri but well we all say this is quicker and that is quicker but in reality between the sri's and sport and gsi's mostly through the rev range its like a cars length if not that between them all i have raced at my local ind estate with some mates even a 60bhp 1.4 8v corsa is not that far behind the 1.4 16v sport not coz there both slow its just in reality only seconds are the difference not minutes or hours remember lads dont matter if u win by an inch or a mile and lets face wat car gets a mile ahead apart from real super cars i.e supras, impreza's, ferrarri etc etc

I used to have an AX GT 1.4 8v, it ran 0-60 in about 8.5 seconds but it did weigh 720Kg!
Its hard to find a fast car that isn't silly money and even harder to find one that isn't silly insurance. I had the AX GT at 18 years old, they're 85Bhp as standard and weigh nothing, they are the fastest 1.4 on the road without a turbo. I had the AX tunned to 100Bhp, it was pretty nippy. Now I have "THE" fastest 1.4 on the road at 20 years old, Punto GT(3) Turbo, 146Bhp as standard tunned to little over 150Bhp. Next I'm going for a Corsa GSI with a C20LET (2.0l DOHC 16v turbo) engine.
A car thats over looked often is the Uno Turbo MK2, its 118Bhp, its pretty damn quick but its hard to find a good one, most are rust infested. Uno T's are group 11 insurance!! and with a touch of tunning are flying machines.

Uno Turbos are collectors items now, some dude got offered 5K for his when he thought it was only worth 500quid. This was a fiat dealer that offered this.

My sport isnt slow and its not even that tuned. Stainless steel backbox and drilled air box, thats it. Beats VTR's no worries, can keep up with zetec-s's most of the time. Who cares about top end anyway?? Havent been beat by an N/A 1.4 to this date.

Depends what you are used to. The Micra 1.3 16v feels damn meaty after a Corsa 12v or a Micra 1.0. The 1.4 16v Corsa is a rocket ship to the kid who passed his test his mums Metro.

Even a 2.0 Corsa would be slow after driving a Dodge Charger with a huge Supercharger, comparatively.

I like the 1.4 motor.

The 8v 60 hp early one was a bit crap though.
