Evening all,

I'm booked up for a euro trip again this year - Nurburgring (both Nordschleife and F1 track) followed by Spa. As a result, it's time to get a helmet - both for safety and not least as it's compulsory at Spa!

I've been reading up and seen that many circuits don't allow roof down action with an open face helmet, so pretty sure I'll be going with a full face jobbie.

The two that have taken my fancy at the moment are the Sparco Club X1 or OMP Circuit, and surprisingly Demon Tweeks appears to be the cheapest when you take into consideration the free helmet bag.

http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/helmets/omp-circuit-helmet - £72.73 posted, with smoked visor being £11.53.
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/helmets/sparco-club-x1-helmet - £78.00 posted, but smoked visor is £31.15!

What are your thoughts on the two helmets above, or would you recommend something else? I'm not planning on getting into motorsport, so don't believe I need anything that is FIA approved, although as always I'm happy to be proven wrong.

Would you also consider a smoked/dark visor to be worthwhile in a car like mine? There's been many a time on the road where the sun has been extremely bright over the top of the screen, and I wouldn't fancy having to shield my eyes from the sun whilst navigating Eau Rouge!

Cheers

Definitely get a smoked one if you plan on having the roof down. I've been there many a time and sunglasses are a must on the road, nevermind on a track when you're flat out.

Not allowed if he's running without a roof with most TDOs.

I've got a full face, I don't think it obstructs that much vision and it's good for karting. Just got a new OMP full face which hopefully I'll be using at combe!

Heading out for the VLN on 25th April, then got a few days at the ring before heading to Spa on thurs 30th, and finally head home on Mon 4th May.

Does mean we miss the Combe opener this year though!

The differences when talking about the Snell standards can be found on the Snell site.

They basically boil down to.

1. Visor port opening. The motorcycle helmets have a larger minimum size.
2. Liner flammability. Auto racing liners are fire resistant. Motorcycle are not.
3. Impact tests. Auto racing helmets have to undergo one extra style of anvil impacts to simulate the contact with a cage.

Some organizations do not allow the motorcycle helmets for HPDE. I would reccomend getting an SA--Special Applications (auto racing) rated helmet so you don't have to worry about it.

slightly different shape too usually

I doubt it Stevo, unless you guys are heading across to Spa at all - we leave the ring the day before you arrive! Are you guys getting the tunnel across? What time are you booked to return? May see you there.
