old design was very good for what it was, although almost 10 years old.

Sweet, have been really impressed with the two sets of R888 I've had.

Especially hilarious when it's damp.

Go to a race day, loads of single make series use r888s as the control tyre and each team will have stacks of them. The sizes thy make are the ones in demand

I actually think a semi slick tyre thicker side wall looks better than small walled tyres. Odd but I do.

this is 50 profile on the front and 45 on the rear..

Nope, it's assymetrical, definitely isn't a directional tyre.

The straight water line (what ever it's called ) looks more towards the inside of the tyre. The old 888 design is directional?

It has a direction arrow on the sidewall, to me that's directional.
