Not really what youre after but an interesting story, we met some French guys when we were camping who were working for a telecoms company. The company paid them €99/day for food and sleep away from home. They were staying at a campsite for €13 and raking the allowance in

That's what we do,

Get £100 a night for hotel allowance, if we spend less its ours, if we spend more they pay the difference,
Then £30-50 food allowance (depending on location) and then over night allowance on top,

Fair chunk of money to be made on bunking up in rooms etc.

As for rooms to rent, zoopla? Gumtree?

I usually just get a hotel. I'm in London for 6 days in January. Driving down on Monday morning and will leave Saturday evening. Will have a couple of meals in the hotel but generally eat Subways and supermarket sandwiches.

I once stayed at a B&B in Newcastle for a few days. Nice enough people but didn't enjoy the small talk much.
