Does anyone buy part worn tyres on here? Could do with a couple of tyres soon and thought I'd look on eBay and there are a few part worn (5mm-6mm left) for sale in the exact make, model and size I want. Works out a hell of a lot cheaper than new.

Or is it a bit dodgy?!

I do; but at local part worn place. When I looked at buying online or eBay people locally wanted silly amounts to fit and balance to make part warn not as attractive!

Already got a price for fitting locally as I was sourcing the new tyres myself so got that side of things covered

Same as above really. Paid £15 fitted for some 15" winter tyres for my van, that was over 18months ago, 2 are still on now

If you get them locally you can have a look at them first, make sure there is no damage etc.

There's none local but it's through eBay & Paypal so I would like to think I could get money back if they turned up and were bald and with rips in the tyre walls instead of how they look in the photos

I personally wouldn't, but I know people that do get part worns and have no problems.

Most are from germany iirc, which requires all 4 tyres to be renewed after a car has an accident.

Whether this is true or not, I don't know. But i've heard the same story more than once.

I buy part worns but I get them from a tyre place, I've never had any problems with them

Yeah I buy them from a place in Bolton 7mm for a quarter of the price. Don't know why you wouldn't!

Did the mini come with new tyres when you bought it second hand?

I have to say, I don't swear by them as I think there's a lot of shit out there but having sold lots of old alloys I can say its probably a cheaper way to do for the people who get the stuff at a good price.

Loads of people knocking out bald shit though.

I haven't.
That's only because, tyres for Corsa are around £40 so rather buy new. Can't see me getting much cheaper from another place.

Although I do plan on looking into it a bit more.

Nothing wrong if they're checked properly

I always buy part worns from Eather a tyre centre or the scrap yard I do have a quick look over the tyre before handand iI only pay £15 including fitting so would be rude not to get them and before anyone says iI wouldn't buy tyres from a scrap yard there come in on cats that are getting scrapped nothing wrong with the tyres

Im not going to sit here and try and argue its wrong because I have no valid argument against it, there isn't anything wrong with it at all as long as they are advertised correctly.

If im needing new tyres though, my personal insecurities convince me that its a bit gypo bying pre own tyres.

Indeed, but I didn't go out and buy them in the first place, if the car came with bald tyres and they needed replacing straight away I would replace with brand new, its a psychological thing.

Happily buy part worns. My mate owns his own part worn place.

Got one going on the Puma on Saturday as it goes. I check all tyres myself and pick which I want. 6mm on a Bridgestone for £15 fitted and balanced, why wouldn't you?

I guess one thing to consider is flat spots? Could look good on the face of it then drive shite once one?

When it is the only connecting me and 1 tonne + of metal hurtling along the motorway at 70mph+, I know I'd prefer new

£120 odd each plus fitting for brand new tyres £276ish total inc fitting

£95 plus fitting for 2 part worms with 5mm left & same make model & size as new ones £131 total inc fitting
