Talking about Mr Kindness car last night and was wondering about the gearbox. Does he have an F16/F18 or F20 box? Just that his speedo shows 130mph and the rev counters at 7000rpm. 130mph on a F20 shows about 6250-6500rpm though.

Anyone shed any light?

f16 and f20 have same ratios as far as im aware so it doesnt matter what box is in there

sure hes got an f20 though.

why havent you read off speed from rpm rather than speedos before your asking??? some forumalas will do this for ya nicely

F16 n F20 must have different ratios. They are different gearboxes. F16 is a closer ratio box.

same ratios diff crown wheel is what i been told hence box is smaller and cant handle as much torque

it smells when your doing 130mph. I'm sure when I was doing 130 it was not at 7000rpm. cannae remember

F16 has different ratio and its better for 0-60 times coz of the gearing.

Just remember a pic of his speedo @ 7000rpm showing 130mph. Yet someone elses 2.0litre i know shows 135mph @ about 6500rpm which i'd say is more right.

F16 im still sure has different ratios as Stuyw as said.

I also have 16"s though and they are fairly accurate (ish). On 15"s my car hit the limiter in 4th @ 102mph. This shows as 98mph with my 16"s. But above 100mph i dunno what happens. It sometimes (v rarly) gets to 115-120, but usually sticks around 110 flat out.

f20 gearbox comes in 3 diff types dependin on which car u get it out of. short,medium and long ratio. beardy as short ratio which tops out at 130. dunno about the other two.

My old corsa was running an F20, that did 137mph at 7750rpm, if that help?

air con is free wheeling isnt it? so wouldnt sap any power until activated and also as said would not affect revs against speed at all.
