No you don't. You'll only want it when Apple tell you that you do.

id rather pick up my phone and press the home button then put it straight down if thres nothing there. rather than have to stare at it for a while, then push the button anyway if it flashes

I'd rather not have to pick my phone up at all is the point

Mine sits on my desk at work. The notification light works perfectly. Same for at home on the coffee table etc...

Not sure what I was thinking there. The iPhone is perfect in every single way and I never want anything to be added to it ever again. Unless Apple decide that I do.

Wonder if I can break even if I sell my 2 year old 15" MBP and get an i7 Air in stead.

Sorely tempted by a powerful machine in a tiny package.
Not sure if I'd miss my GPU too much though.

I like it, it still needs some refining but as its the first major overhaul I'm sure it will be iterated and improved upon over time.

This mockup on Dribbble captures the essence of what Apple are trying to achieve but it feels more 'right', not sure if its the longer corner radius of the app icons that takes some adjusting to (this uses the old radius).

Tbf it's more useful than that. When you hit the home button to check for notifications it powers up all the radios and starts to 'fetch' stuff. Repeating this throughout the day has a significant impact on battery life over being able to glance at an LED.

Used to have LED on my BB's when I had them. Fantastic feature. Set diff colours for different notifications so if its on the table you only have to pick it up if its important etc..

I was quite surprised they introduced actionable notifications on the mac (for responding to iMessages within the notification) but then didn't incorporate it into iOS. Limitations with background apps or just holding off for iOS8?

They'll wait and see what everyone else does then copy it.

Not worried about innovation or evolution now Apple says you aren't then?

It's all doing even more of what's already been done and complete UI change in 2013.

It's no secret Apple are rarely first to market.

Good article that kind of sums up my thoughts on the redesign, hints of genius with a strong direction but needs refinement.

yeah, but all a blackberry will do with this extra power is last a few more hours but tell you its too low for radio use anyway.

The people have spoken, we want an LED on the next iPhone. Or we'll still buy it anyway.

What spec?

I've got a vintage 2012 MBA 13" Core i7 2.0ghz 8Gb RAM 256gb SSD - battery still lasts about 5-6 hours and it's just coming up to a year old!

Worth upgrading?
