Any one use them?With my car garaged for over the winter the battery keeps going flat and im having to jump start it each time i go up and want to move it or work on the car and a neighbour reccomended one of these batters isolators but iv never really heard of them and how they fit & work.

Anyone have any info & tips?

if its the one im thinking of, its basically a red key you turn and remove to isolate the power so it can't be stolen/battery keeps going flat

Had 1 of those red key 1s fitted to the MR2 i had. Previous owner fitted it because the doors didn't lock. Was fitted under the hood.

Also, could some1 explain how an isolator thing will stop the battery going flat?? If its going flat just now from sitting, then its still going to go flat surely even with the isolator fitted.

It's assuming something in the car is draining it. If it's a duff battery it won't help.

Theres a better isolator you can get that connects to your fuel pump and everything else so everything gets shut down when you take this plastic key out!



Your neighbour probably meant the kill switch pictured tbh. Anyhow the eBay link will also work too and is probably best option to save you cutting wires up etc.

The battery will loose its charge if not recharged. There isn't much you can do there. I have a "smart" (brand name) charger that reconditions the battery and charges it up quite nicely and fast. Reccommended for batteries like yours lol.
Also I would get a anti-sulphate battery thingy that connects between the two terminals to keep the battery in good condition.

Battery is not all that old and i think its the Toad alarm and cold weather that's causing it to drain because the car isnt being used.

Best thing to do is remove the terminal, there are muliple feeds from the battery so would need to isolate to stop drainage

Just leave a 10mm spanner in the door pocket, as you need to pop the bonet to flick the isolator switch, just as quick to do up the 10mm

I've got one installed in my car, just inside the glove box. Does the job nicely, exact same one as the one above.

If you get the one above mount it inside cause even tho it says waterproof the insides of the switch rust away to shit.

We used to have these in our rally cars, then we realised it was easier just using the earth wire from the battery. Saves chopping lots of wires when you can re route just one to the switch lol

Why do you not just take it off with a socket since you have to go to the trouble of opening the bonnet anyway?

Thats what I meant, yes.

John - do you normally keep a socket/spanner in your pockets or glove box? I always have me hands on my ( i hope)

it is MUCH easier to remove that terminal.

I would go for the red key isolater though (not cut off)... and just wire it in under the dash or somewhere descrete. More work that simple quick connect terminal though.

If I'm going to the trouble of disconnecting the battery and leaving the car somewhere with it disconnected, then yes, I would always have a socket on me.

This isn't a race car, I'm sure you have some specific need for it, OP doesn't as far as I can see.

...other than stopping something draining the battery.

Race cars require cut-off / kill switches, not something to simply isolate the battery.
