Can get better and cheaper deals elsewhere, take eBuyer for example:

I had only used that as an example tbh

the one I had seen is the same spec and the one you have posted but with 1tb hdd

For basic tasks the Revo will be alright but it'll be painful for anything remotely intensive.

Easily doable to get a decent processor in a small box, just look at m-ITX/shuttle based systems. Few examples - here, here, here and here.

Only the ram and drive (requires stripping the whole system down to replace the drive), rest is as-is.

Depends how much you want to spend but have a look on eBuyer and Overclockers, both sell pre-built (or barebones) m-ITX/shuttle systems.

SolidWorks will only run on Windows 7. Windows XP is supported but it runs pretty poorly on there these days and is no longer supported from 2013 onwards. You need at least 4GB of RAM for it, 8 is a better starting point - so you definitely need an x64 machine. You should use a certified graphics card too, an nVidia Quadro or ATI Fire Pro. Incorrect graphics cards and drivers make SolidWorks very sad.

Will the bottom end NVS series work with Solidworks? Sounds like £350 budget is extremely tight for a decent Solidworks system.

Yes and no. It will work in OpenGL mode, but the performance is poor - low frame rate when moving your design around and no shadows or proper material texture rendering. Probably not an issue, but the flow simulation package uses the graphics card for calculations. It's not ideal to use onboard or gaming graphics, but it does run as I've got installed on my MacBook Air (not done anything serious with it though as I have a workstation).

Are you buying SolidWorks? Is this going to be used for work? Sounds like you're just wanting to play with it - if this is the case save you're money, if its for work get a Dell Precision workstation.
