I looked at this a while back. I assumed it was a bit like Dragons' Den where you would get a percentage of the company, but instead they just send you free crap don't they?

Everyone is trying to do that with bulbs just now btw, will need to get to a price point at least 10x lower before it's of any use.

I don't see the point, surely the pledge amounts will just match their RRP anyway? So why don't you just wait and see if the project is a success and then buy one

I guess but if everyone thought like this it'd never get made and I don't mind backing new stuff if its actually decent.

John - You're right about the price point. I'm hoping since its vastly exceeded its target that they will lower the price point once in full production.

Yeh I understand why they need to get money, but I don't really see the value in people investing in it?

I like the timed dimming. Would help get me out of bed in the winter, I think.

You can do home automation but there is no nice comprehensive good consumable products out there.

Its something I am looking into at the moment and developing a possible solution for.

I also think that Kickstarter is missing the mass market. Why not develop a small 1/2" adapter you put inline that gives you the control. A much much wider audience

Philips already do this albeit with their own remote. I don't get why this is new???

Its not about a new product, your backing a new company for a cheaper than final RRP.

Ive backed the pebble watch which intregates with smartphones.
Expect long delays, even months after the initial shipping date.

Although i'm not convinced by that Kickstarter product, similar and cheaper products already exist - this for example. Can even do it yourself.


Bart - Have you heard anything about the pebble yet? Have they started manufacture/given you a shipping time frame?

I'm all for supporting new upcoming tech even if Apple arent.

I guess its the convenience of having the control within an App that make this more desirable. Plus its cooler

I had an email a few weeks back to confirm my colour and pay a few $$ for delivery (maybe $10 or something) and thats it.
They've setup a new website: http://getpebble.com/

Shipping dates have not officially been announced, but they have ran a shipping test from HQ to various countries, so hopefully not long.
Im not 100% convinced I'll have it this side of xmas, but you never know.

Going back to the OP, the Kickstarter website is a great idea and theres some really cool stuff, but on the downside, backers are not protected, meaning someone can fraudulently setup a make believe company, take your money and run, leaving you out of pocket.

Fucking you do wank off over anything to do with Apple/iPhone.

Waste of money, for the time being. I reckon in the not too distant future they'll be much affordable and be assigned an IPv6 IP address so you can control remotely.
