Background:
26, married with child, R reg 1.9tdi vw passat (not modified)

Insurance renewal just hit my inbox, £1108! I used to insure a 2ltr for around £700 a few years back.

Is insurance getting a little out of hand nowadays? I'm thinking this legality needs to be effectively policed more surely.

I have a Cheshire post code WA8 however it's not the "best" area around here but by all means not a crack den.

Quick go compare search and direct line quote shows I can get it for around £680-740 at the cheapest. Looks like swift cover are loosing my custom... Stupid puppet!

I was under that impression to M2rty but this year it's gone up by several hundred.

I thought having a sensible car and being married with child had a benifit in this scenario but obviously not.

I had to do a fair bit of shopping about to get a similar price this year. Managed to get it about £50 cheaper but considering I'm 25, 7 years NCB, no claims, no convictions, £1200 to insure a 1.3 Combo is atrocious.

The WA postcode really doesn't help imo. I got a few quotes a while back on a few cars at my house and then at a mates house and they were all around £300 cheaper at my mates address.

I've always paid monthly though.
I refuse to pay that sort of money for a £700 car.

Back on the my original point
As a legal requirement I honestly feel their should be some form of regulator. And if there is who are they because they are surely not doing a logical job!

really?

I have wondered how having a child effects my premium tbh.

If it does make it higher I think that's a bit backwards, since you're more likely to drive sensibly with a child on board.

I don't see how you would regulate the prices?

The price is there, you either pay it or not. Same with everything else in the world, if all companies were regulated and had to give a set price, there would be no competition between companies or business'.

Do you ask about who regulates Tesco prices? What about petrol? or clothes prices?
