I don't really follow athletics even during the olympics so bear with me, but what's the deal with Usain Bolt not pushing till' the finish?

I can understand the heats etc as every stride he takes at full steam could potentially be an injury but when pushing for Gold, why not go for the WR too?

He'll be nearly 30 at the next Olympics I think, so surely he'll not be at peak condition - so going for uber glory here would make sense to me. From the runs I've seen him do (not just in this Olympics) I don't think I've ever seen him dip his chest at the line or even look like he's trying in the last few meters It's impressive, but he's probably missed out on a record or two surely?

I appreciate he already holds the records btw, but why not extend his lead and legacy a bit - being the first man under 19sec for example is a record nobody will ever take away from him.

He knew he had no chance of beating it as he got closer to the clock so he basically gave up.

He did look like he could run faster though

Yeah, wasn't great. Finished 9-2. Had no defence in the second half as they were chasing the game. All or nothing really, ended very much nothing.

I see, I guess that makes sense. Such tiny margins though, to read the clock and calculate it in your head sounds far fetched - but makes it all the more impressive I guess.

As Johnson said, you know when you are running WR time. He wasn't.

If he had focussed solely on his lane and just went all out from start to finish then maybe but then he has never done anything conventional and that's what makes him the legend he is.

Even if Bolt had pushed to the line he was probably on around a 19.25 sort of time. The fact was he was also struggling at the end and admitted he didn't quite have the endurance he was hoping for.

Loved the stat for the white french guy. Only white guy out of 82 under 10 seconds lol. Quite an interesting debate around the whole colour thing and how much of a factor it is. I think Johnson hit the nail on the head about it being THE sport in Jamaica. Same as football is here/Spain etc

there was an interesting programme on a while back about the slave trade and the strongest slaves (who had survived the journey from africa) came off the ships at america/jamaica.

michael johnson was tracing back his own roots.

worth a watch. definitely has some truth behind it, i'm sure.
