Tailgates full of oil?

It will be one of the gaskets/seals around the oil pump if you aren't using an oil cooler.

Are you sure it's not coming out the sump? Nearly all XE's leak from the sump

I didn't say that mate ! I was referring to when I drive like I did to PVS my tail gate was covered in oil, and I've actually seen it dripping now from the oil pump area.

And I'm just wanted to know weather it's common in that area and is it a big job like ?

Tbh it sounds like you have a very bad leak, or a very unhealthy engine. Or possibly both.

Oh right, got to get the pump off and belt off, not ridiculously hard to be honest as it's not amazingly hard to get to

If it's coating the rear in oil when you're driving imagine what it's doing to the road

Your best bet it to clean everything off the best you can, and run it to make sure it is the oil pump seal. Most of the time the sump is cracked by the bolt holes. Getting the oil pump off isn't too bad a job, but gettting the main crank bolt undone is unreal if it's been torqued up properly. While it's all off you'll be better off changing the cam belt, and water pump, and fitting a GM oil pump.

Lets hope it's just the sump.

I'll get it over the pit at work and cover it with brake cleaner to pin point it, and see if it's the sump or seal

Fazza it was mixed I think oil and soot :S

Well it wount need belt or water pump mate just been done when I had it on the stand

Thanks for the comments

My x16xe used to do that, always had oil spots all over the rear of the car from exhaust, never knew what it was, just topped it up all time
