Sat Nav - If its a decent hire car, it'll have one in. However probs not in English, so take one with you.

Have you got a local hertz or enterprise near you?

Have a word with enterprises, hertz, etc as Whittie said. They'll have airport branches and be more able to give you advise on the sat nav situation. I'd just borrow one off a mate though and make sure it's loaded with maps for that country

Just think in a busy city like milan i'd benefit from eyes on the road instead of fighting a gearbox!!

Can get a BMW 1 series coupe for £270!?

You'll try and open the door a couple of times when you go to change gear but you really do just get used to it within a mile or 2.
Worst thing is driving over centre lines because you're not used to having most of the car to your right instead of left

Drove my first left hand drive 300 miles from Nurburg to Calais, only 2 annoying things really.

1) Kept grabbing the door handle to change gear

2) Kept drifting lanes/nearly hitting kerb where I was naturally trying to be on the right hand side of the lane

But you get used to it

I work for avis and they charge about a tenner a day for sat navs so its cheaper to buy your own. Just make sure you check the insurance excess as thats where they make money if you crash it can be up to 1500 pound

I download the maps on my Nokia for the country I'm going to so I don't incur any data charges whilst there. Totally free sat nav then.

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

I hired a little 107 in portugal.

It had a massive blow on the exhaust manifold, a massive clunk on the steering rack and all 4 tyres were bald.

They couldn't give a fuck.
