Yeah grills lol
You can put as many coats as you like. If its not got a good enough key it will chip easily or peel off.
Might as well leave it till it peels off though. Might get lucky

Do the roof in your garage, and mask the car up. Also make sure you buy the renovo cleaner & reproofer.

Make sure the roof is as clean as you can physically get it first (renovo cleaner is 10x bettter than the autoglym one etc)

Then mask the car up, and apply the dye in the shade otherwise it'll dry quickly and therefore patchy.

Takes a couple of coats, and will then need reproofing. Don't rush it. You'll need to allow at least a full day to do it.

I haven't actually done any of these myself yet, but have read up / spoken to several people about it

Cheers rich. Wasn't sure whether to get the cleaner/proofer but if its better then I may aswell.

Luckily I have 3 weeks of work so can do it without rushing.

decided to make a start on the headlights so spent an hour opening them up and removing all the bits.

what an absolute ballache of a job, involving tiny screws and expensive parts

anyway, i now have random bits everywhere:

the projector things which i'm hoping would make HID's legal:

and the glass bulb housings i was talking about before:

going to spray up the surround tomorrow then attempt to put it all back together without scratching the paint.

so i finally managed to grow a pair and crack on with sorting the roof out.

when new, it was grey. i've seen grey ones and they look nothing like mine, which has faded into a greeny colour.

so i had to manouver 3 cars around a 1 car driveway (one of which is just a shell :lol to get the z4 in the garage.

then masked the car up (took ages just doing that)

the roof before. as you can see, quite green and has a lot of marks on:

no going back now:

1st coat done:

shouldn't have worn tommy hilfiger shorts and a timberland t-shirt

also re-tinted my rear lights the other day as they had faded quite badly. i didn't apply and lacquer on them before but have now:

before (n/s light here has gone more orange than red:

after:

What did you use for the roof? Mine is a mess

Looks promising from the pics. Ive tried cleaning mine but it's 10 years old now. I think it might be a lost cause.

yeah. i didn't find any decent products to get it back to grey so just decided to buy black dye.

nath, the stuff i used is called Renovo Reviver. gets really good reviews everywhere.

just finished the 2nd coat

it's still wet so looks patchy. only used 300 ml's to do 2 coats. i bought a 1 litre bottle

getting it off glass is hard work

nice snug fit into the garage btw:
