Go to Vauxhall and buy the new gasket from the bottom of the downpipe to the Cat.

It's a better quality one that most aftermarket gaskets and only costs £4 or so.

I replace the gasket every year when I swap the cat/de-cat.

You will feel it will be more responsive, I doubt a BHP gain will be much more than 5bhp.

Yes, I change mine before the MOT with axle stands, WD40 and a load of swearing.

What exhaust system have you got at the moment? I cut my CAT from the original exhaust system and trimmed the end to match the lenght of the decat pipe to make the two easy to swap.

When you take the CAT off, rub down the surface rust around the end of the pipe going into the rest of the exhaust system and wrap it in an oily rag until your MOT.

at the mo i got a mongoose CAT back system, and had a new CAT put on about 8 months ago.

Doubt i'll be swapping them back again (I know the MOT bloke)

I lost 1 bhp but gained 5 lb/ft torque.

The de-cat I got from PVD came with a gasket.

What make is your decat pipe 3CM?

I got the last of the Janspeed ones and this comes with a fixed mounting plate for the downpipe, with the other end (system end) being just a plain pipe.

The bore of the decat should be the same size as the cat pipe, so it just slides into the cat-back system.

The gasket I bought from Partco was a ceramic-style one, whereas the Vauxhall one is wire-mesh.

i got the PVD one.......has a loose mounting plate that fits to the manifold.

I have heard there is an addative you can put into your fuel about 1-2 weeks before an MOT, it lowers the emmisions for a short period of time so much that without the CAT your car will still pass an emissions test.

Dunno how true this is.

can anyone tell me how much it costs for a decat pipe? is the gain good? what about noise? nice note? and how does it fit? ie does it clamp or does it have to be welded?

i fitted mine, and sounds a bit loud, pickups a little better, nothing to write home about tho......
Don't need welding, just some jubilee clips to tighten it up, i needed a short piece of pipe bout 6" long to connect the two parts.
