£25k wouldn't pay off our mortgage??

yet you are looking at putting another 10k down to get a newer Audi.

Priorities are different for everyone.

Well how about a bigger Daewoo? Perfectly safe car, economical, reliable and I'd bet cheaper to run.

How much cheaper would an equiv Daewoo be?

You're hardwork... The point is what is 'equivilent' you're arguing that a £25 watch is just as good as a £2500 watch because it tells the time but on the other hand a £2500 car isnt as good as a £25000 car even though they both do the same job?

£2500 car wouldn't do the same job tho?

Yep. Still not sure what my mortgage/car has to do with it tho?

I'd rather pay a low mortgage (which £750 is IMO) and have nothing outstanding on our cars.

If I had no savings/invetments then it would be different.

How is part ex'ing my car in and paying £10k to upgrade a "fail"?

I'm saying I wouldn't, I can't see how that makes any sense, I would however go straight out and spend 10k on a watch if I had it spare.

Ok Ben.. Lets see if we can work this through.

On one hand you're happy to spend £25k on a car that drives on roads, has doors, seats etc. the same as a cheaper car that would drive on roads, have doors, seats etc. but the idea of buying an expensive watch that tells the time is just alien to you?

The difference between the watch and the car is your £25k car will be worth £5k in 5 years but your £2.5k watch will probably still be worth £2k.

*EDIT*

And to add to the mix: put that £25k into equity on your property and there is a very big chance that it will be worth more than £25k in 5 years.

So who is the mug?

But I won't have my car in 5 years. I'll be part ex'ing it in Sept when its still worth 75% of what I paid for it.

I was using it as an example of how different people do things differently.

If you like your watch then it was worth every penny. Same as if a guy who spent 3k thinks it was worth every penny.

In reality, some of them are value for money, others aren't.

Also, OP had a great suggestion on the first page and actually bought a watch from it.
