£1200 to just build the engine

No oil spray jets? What cams?

No oil spray jets he said they don't do that much as the only spray oil onto the rods or something?

They cool the exhaust side of the piston if fitted as they should be in the order they should be.

I am tempted to buy my motor back and show people some proper LET figures....

Go for it then, you will only end up breaking it for parts before its finished

Since the pistons are Wossners I imagine the rods will be whatever PEC sell. Eagles maybe?

Just had a quick look, Wossner piston and rod kit - £1080 inc vat from Ric Wood.

Same from PEC - £919.13 inc vat.

Seems Ric made £160 out of you just by clicking a button on a mouse a few times

Head studs and head gasket - £220
Rick wood price - £304
You could go on..........

£6000 long motor build an there's no oil spray jets, no zlet pump, no arp mains studs, you've still got to buy cams, no sign on the bill for block strenghting, no double valve springs, no solid lifters, do I need to go on.......
An your hoping for 600bhp.
why did you not get someone to spec you engine who knows how to get power from a clet, people who have been there etc
Wish you luck mate your going to need it.

I know I still have to spend a few hundred on mine....
ARP main and head studs
Cometic head gasket
Mahle bigs and mains
......but even so I would say my bottom end is better specced and cost alot less (I admit my rods and z-let pump are second hand).

Research is everything when doing an engine build, and spending a bit of time looking to see who sells what and where can literally save thousands!

Not to keep adding salt. PEC rods are cheap rebranded ones from china.

The funny thing is it was only the other day people where slagging the price of fenny's clet on eBay at £4k, that had everything inc arrow steel crank and would of done 600bhp+. Looks like a cheap engine in my eyes.....

Thats a crazy price to spend on an engine, and by the sounds of it, you have got a lot more to spend on other parts.

I can understand people who do big power builds over a period of time, but fuck shelling out that much in 1 go.

Fair play and all that, but if you are willing to spunk all that cash in 1 go, do you not regret not buying something mega fast in the 1st place.

I'm not going to moan about the price etc but maybe you should have a word with the builder and provide some prices listed here of items his clearly over charged you for.
If someone came to me and wanted to spend £6k I would make sure I gave them a good deal and some reductions based apon them spending so much at once.

Anyway, good luck with it, hope it works out well for you

Been thinking about this thread. If Ric wood has spec'ed your engine and you have just paid the bill (telling him its going to be running 600bhp) then you need to contact him asking some questions why jobs where not done.

Some questions like valve float at high boost pressure etc

I see your engine good for 400 before you see problems. We has 336bhp on a gt28 turbo and was getting valve float on standard springs.

If you need any advice message me and I will send you my number. Just feel he has not spec'ed your engine right for what you want an charged you the earth for it.
Funny he charges you £1200 to build it an it still needs to come apart

Shouldn't it be fine with a c20let oil pump and steel gears?

Beardy, if I was the OP id feel hard done by. I just hope he listens to what a few of us are saying and does something about it before he drops the engine in a car. But at the end of the day its his money and his decision.
