My girlfriend wants the passenger side front airbag on her KA turned off and went to ford who quoted her £50 to do it. Is this standard procedure now? Anyways to get it done any cheaper?

Any car I've had wit hassenger airbag, you usually put the key in somewhere to deactivate it?

I'm guessing this is for a child seat?

I thought all cars with them had the ption to turn it off and on. Seems strange having to pay to do it each time you either have a child or an adult in the car

Not all cars use a key, iirc on the 'C' it has to be done by a Tech2 and i'd say it likely to be the same for a KA. Another option is remove it completely but it'll be a bit of a pain in the arse though.

Yeah its for my little boys car seat. Apparently it would have been an optional extra but it wasnt mentioned to us when we got the car. The rest of the extras were offered mind.

I'm betting for the £50 it'd cost at Ford, you could probs by the tool you need yourself for half the price and do it when you choose.

£50 is a bargain IMO.

Taking a fuse/relay out will most likely de-activate both.

Pay an auto electrician to put it on a switch. Must be able to do it if it was an optional extra

You can get behind it and unplug it yourself for free, depends how happy you are taking the dash apart.

If the kid is travelling in a car seat I would be removing it completely rather than fitting a switch, it's certainly not going to go off if it's on a shelf in the garage.

If its the same as the Puma one then you should just be able to pull the cover off and it'll all be there ready to be disassembled, not sure never done one.

theres a switch that can be fitted but airbag ecu needs reprogramming to allow it to work
but can only be reprogammed by fords ids computer

Removing it or just unplugging it will cause the light to come on.
