Conrod change, one day....

Box of goodies

Car ready to go

TIme to start stripping down the engine

Small pile of parts building up

Draining the oil (Nice and black)

My turbo removed which is in perfect condition for having 53k on the clocks, no play in the shaft etc

More bits removed

Lower sump removed

Rocker cover off and removing the rocker cover

the the head removed

and put in a safe place

Warren the cleaned the top of the block where the headgasket sits of all the gunk etc

More bits removed

Warren cleaned then it was time to remove the pistons and rods

Upper sump was then removed along with the oil sensor and baffle plate

Crank revealed

Standard Pistons and rods removed

Time to remove the forged pistons from the standard VXR rods

Pistons removed and H beam steel rods ready to go

Then fitted

Warren marked each rod so he knew which hole it needed to go back into (Cant really see from the pics)

Installing the new Mahle shell bearings

Cheeky pics if the oil squirter

Pistons going in with Piston ring compressor

We were going to keep the old piston rings in because they were fine but swiftly changed plans and went with new piston rings

New

Old

Going on

Going in

Nice and shiny

Rods in with ARP bolts

344mm Brake conversion

cleaned the underside of the head

Headgasket on

Headbolts going in

New extended exhaust manifold bolts

Parts back on - Turbo, boost pipes & CDTi kit

Fresh oil going in

Then all done and time for a test drive

I also got a few extra parts fitted - Cambelt & tensioners, waterpump, Headgasket, upper & lower sump gaskets, thermal inlet gasket

it says fitting the rods to the forged pistons.

why would you have fitted forged pistons and steel rods at two completely different times? Or are the stock pistons forged and only the rods need changing for the power you wish to achieve?
