what top speed are you expecting? If you've got big wheels fitted, or even maybe not a 1.4 8v SPi wont do much more then 90mph anyway...

i got a 1.2 8v on 16"s and can pull an indicated 95mph. Think you've got some kinda prob there mate. I mean, whats it like in the other gears?? ie: does it pull over 4.5k in 2nd gear?

Exactly if its going over 4.5k in every other gear other then 5th, its gotta be either a problem with ur 5th gear or the engine cant pull the car after 4.5k, is the car overloaded? do u have to much weight in the back (ice,..ect) Are the wheels to big? if u have 17"+ and a 1.4 8v Spi then look to changine the engine (its complete cack for a 1.4)

anyway the legal limits 70mph on motorways and u shouldnt be trying to go faster anyway! I have a nissan 200sx and although i love getting to 70mph very quickly i never go over! (its just not worth loosing ur license/ or more importantly putting other peoples lifes at risk)!!!!

If you sit at 70 on a motorway then you are going backwards everybody is overtaking you!

So many hippocrites on this site!

surely the top of 4th gear is faster than 4500 in 5th?
If you've got a body kit it will have cause more drag and will reduce top speed.
