How much does a 2.0 16v engine and gearbox usually go for on average? I am thinking of buying a shitty spec'd Corsa as a project car and doing the said conversion. Apart from driveshafts/brakes/suspension/exhaust, is there anything else I need to take into account when doing the conversion?

a good engine with warenty approx £700 inc gearbox. You need to consider wether your car is gen2 in which case if it has power steering is not good as the conversion will be alot harder to do. The best corsa to buy to do the conversion with is an early 8v as this is the cheapest conversion.

How is the conversion harder to do with P/S?

i think ritch means electric power steering. the fluid type isnt much difficult but the electric type is alot of work. not the sort of job for DIY.

most people who put 2litres in put them in older cars coz there engine is fu*ked or high mileage. not many people take a 10,000 mile engine out for a 10 year old 2litre

Yeah I know. I was thinking of buying something like an L reg 1.2 Merit and putting a 2.0 16v engine in that.

ive got p/s in mine and it works fine, only problem is that the piping is really close to the manifold, so gonna invest in some exhaust wrap to cool it down

Do you think steering would be a lot heavier with a 2.0 than it would with the old 1.2?

Shouldn't be too bad if I put 15s on with 195/50/15 tyres, as opposed to putting some nice 17s on?

Mine was a 95 SRi and has retained the power steering. Definitely retain power steering if you can as it'll make the car a lot easier to live with.
