 | Getting shot of the Focus, as I don't use it a great deal anymore, what with working away in Scotland a lot and flying up a majority of times....

Anyhow, I'm looking at getting a cheap motor for a bit while I'm working away and would like something I could take on track day's at weekends. I've never been on a trackday before, so I'd like something relatively good out of the box to begin with to prevent me chucking loads of money at it at the start.

I'm currently looking at a Civic Type R or a Clio 172/182, but can anyone recommend any others I should look at? I'm thinking a budget of around £3k or so, maybe stretch to £3.5k for the right car....

 | I should have added, that I also don't want anything too track focussed, as I would have to use it as a daily hack when I was home at weekends and not on a track!

 | Ph1 172
 Saxo VTS
 106 GTI
 XSI 16v
 205 (gti6 engine)
 16v AX
 306 GTI6

Out of the above my 2 choices would be ph1 172 or a 16v XSI, you can get ph1 172's for a little over 1k and a decent track spec XSI for a little more. Spend the rest on upgrades.

 | good options there danny. but if he wants to use the car as a daily aswel i think the ph1 is going to need money spending on it with its age now, same with most the other cars listed apart from the 106 gti. I'd be looking at a ph2 clio, just because they're newer, cheap as chips and still nice to drive everyday if need be. just out of the box they're ready to go

Good shout a bit for focused then a CTR

CTR will make a better daily and is still plenty good enough out the box on track

Both a uber reliable and easy to live with too

Wouldnt ignore the frenchies though as they do offer unrivaled
  per £

 | I'm going to be using a Corsa C 1.8 SRI.

Cheap on parts and if I bend it I won't loose too much after selling the straight bits.

I just feel a bit of a prick driving it as I'm old so going to tow it

 | I thought you might. What about 206 GTi's? Never driven one though, so not sure if they're worth considering? At the minute though, its looking like a CTR or 172 cup.... Need to check some insurance out!

 | buy a cheap track prepared XE corsa for around 1500 then spend 1500 on a daily weekend hack so if you smash up on track your not left car less
