Past couple of weeks I've been here

Last night I went here

Wow what an eerie place the woods are

The woods you can see, that is the far left of where Easy Company were dug in, the road you can just about make up would be the northern end of their defence positon, as the road curves around that is just about the edge of where they were, so it wasn't a massive position at all. As you drive further down you can see where the Germans would have been and the clearling that if you have watched Band of Brothers is where the Volks Grendadier division came through to attack them.

I did wander to the edge of the woods but got spooked when I got to the tree line and heard something run away and when I turned on my torch heard a faint mummering of "don't"

Fuck that, it's literally in the middle of no where I was lucky to have come across it as easily as I did.

Then Remagen bridge

I heard something, I could make out foxholes but it was about 9.30 and getting darker and darker if I'd walked in to where they were by the time I got there it would have been pitch black, I didn't fancy going somewhere where there people had recently lost their lives and had limbs removed by shells blasting the trees to pieces and showering them in splinters.

Bastogne is about 20 minutes from Spa.

Remagan is about 30 minutes from Adenau.

That road that takes you towards Brunnchen car park, stay on it all the way to Remagen, wonderful road.

Amazing post. Thanks Ollie.

It would shit me up too, really puts it into perspective when you realise that the line and the tide of the advance was such a small area covered by so few.

RIP to the fallen

I have been to Ypres and done a military ceremony thing to remember the dead. Truely amazing place to visit and very heart wrenching to see the massive fields of graves. Menin Gate (where they do the ceremony)in Ypres has 10,00's of names of dead soldiers.

They hold a small ceremony every night as a thank you to the British fighters who gave their lives.

Have you been to the Menin Gate Ollie? thousands of names etched onto the wall of people who were never found who had fought for the British Empire. They've played the last post at 8pm every day since the end of WW1, the only time they didnt was when the town was under German rule, and on liberation day, they started again
